The map
Why do I see triangles instead of climbs when zoomed out?
Zoomed right out, each triangle is a climb, and the dashed outlines are hill regions where climbs crowd together. Click a region's name to zoom in and see only its climbs; remove its chip (or click the map outside it) to see all of them again. Zoom in and the climbs become coloured lines.
How do I tilt or turn the map?
Hold the scroll wheel (the middle mouse button) and drag: up and down tilts the map, sideways turns it. A right-click drag works too. On a phone or tablet, drag up or down with two fingers to tilt, and twist two fingers to turn.
What do the colours mean?
The switch at the bottom right colours the climbs by Difficulty (green easy to dark red very hard), Steepness (the gradient of each stretch) or Altitude (height above sea level).
Can I hide the hill regions, the cycling roads or the relief?
Yes: the layers button on the map has a switch for each of them, and for trains. Your choices are remembered in this browser.
Climbs
How is the difficulty worked out?
From the climb's length, the height it gains and its steepest stretches. 1 is a gentle rise, 10 the hardest climbs, like the Koppenberg.
A climb is missing, or something is wrong with one
Tell us which climb (copy its link from the climb's panel) and what is wrong. Some climbs are left out on purpose: in big cities only the verified and the hard ones show, and bridge ramps, farm tracks and footpaths are hidden by default (Filters → Show on the map).
Routes
How do I get to a climb?
Open the climb and press Route to climb. The route planner opens and plans a route from your location to the foot of the climb and up it. If you'd rather not share your location, click the map where you want to start.
How do I start a new route?
Press Close at the top of the route in the panel. The planner is empty again (Undo brings the old route back).
How do I get the route onto my bike computer?
Press Export GPX and copy the file to your bike computer or import it in its app.
Do I need an account?
No. An account lets you save routes and see them on another device.
